A few weeks ago I read a post on CurlyNikki about the three things (i.e products) every natural should do after washing their hair. Personally, I feel like everyone should be doing at least one of these things, but that could just be me. I thought it’d be great to share the tips suggested as well as the types of products I use after washing my hair. Read on to find out more.
Moisturisers and milks
The first thing the author suggests is using a moisturiser or a hair milk. These are great because the hair sucks it in and it helps to replenish some of the moisturising goodness that your hair lost during its wash. I love using the ORS Monoi Oil Anti-Breakage Curl Perfecting Buttermilk while my hair is damp to dry. Unlike most moisturisers, this one is a little thick and sticky, but because I apply it when my hair is still a bit wet, it’s able to glide through quite easily. It also smells D-E-VINE and I’ve also noticed that my coils have become way more defined since using it. I’m currently on my second bottle, so you know this stuff is good. (P.s, be sure to check back for my Empties post coming soon).
Leave-in conditioner
The next thing on the list is a leave-in conditioner. These are great because they act like a usual conditioner that you rinse out, only because you get to keep this one in your hair you can reap the nourishing benefits. It’s important to use a leave-in conditioner because it stops your hair from becoming too dry (something that affects all us natural girls, especially in this cold winter). You guys know that I looooove the Blue Magic Tea Tree Oil Leave In Conditioner – in fact, I also love the Argan Oil one as well, but I haven’t used it in a while. This leave-in conditioner is not that thick, but it boasts the wonder ingredient tea tree, which is known to relieve and soothe itchy scalps, and help keep your hair nourished and healthy. I then like to follow it up with the ORS Monoi Oil Anti Breakage Leave-In Conditioning Creme. It has a jelly meets creamy consistency that feels amazing on my scalp and smells like HEAVEN.
Oil
The last thing on the list is oil. Oils seal in moisture which is definitely what you need after washing your hair. I used to not like using oils because of the greasy residue, but recently I have started to change my mind. I’m currently using the 100% Pure Aloe Vera Oil and I am obsessed. I actually use this first when my hair is damp. I do this for a few reasons. Firstly, because my experience with oils have been greasy and gross, I thought using it while my hair was wet would stop it from leaving a greasy residue. Secondly, in the past I’ve found that applying products to my hair immediately after washing only leaves my hair drier, so I thought that oil could be a way to combat this.
Like the article, I would suggest using one (if not three) of the mentioned products after washing your hair. I love using oil, moisturiser and leave-in conditioners because I know well these help keep my hair from getting as dry and hard to manage as it could. It also helps that I spend a whole day doing my hair so I have the time to use loads of products.
