On the topic of itchy scalps (I spoke about this a little
bit in Tuesday’s post when I wrote about the wonders of tea tree oil, see
here),
I incidentally stumbled upon a
Byrdie
article that suggested how an itchy scalp could be the result of its intolerance
to gluten (I mean who even knew this was a thing? – Although after a quick Google search, I see that many people knew it was a thing). Naturally this piqued my interested as these days gluten-free
products are a hot trend. While admittedly I’m not too sure about the whole
gluten/
celiac thing, I do find it incredibly interesting that the conversation
has now moved on from what we are putting into our bodies and on to what are
putting ONTO our bodies – really fascinating stuff.
The article also mentioned that the gluten found in product
ingredients is present in the product’s protein. I found this particularly
interesting because one of the first things I learned when I started my hair
journey was the importance of protein especially in terms of the growth and development
of hair. So to read now that this same holy grail of ingredients could
potentially be working counterproductively was definitely a shock.
I’m pretty sure my itchy scalp is just a result of the cold
weather and perhaps not utilising as many oils as I should, but it’s still an
interesting theory. To read the full article, check out the post
here.
