Growing up, roses were always associated with love and romance, but more recently I’ve been associating the fragrant flower with skincare. I’ve been using rose in my skincare routine for over a year (a lifetime when you think about skincare trends), and I’ve seen the magic and positive change it can bring first hand. Below, I share five key reasons why rose should be in your skincare regimen.
Super hydrating for skin
First off, rose is INCREDIBLE for hydrating skin, penetrating into the deep layers. A few years ago I had really bad dry skin. It was so bad that I would often apply three layers of cream to my face, and even then I’d sometimes still find that my face was dry, both on the surface and deep below. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I had a dry patch on my face that wouldn’t budge no matter what I did to my face. However, that all changed when I discovered Fresh’s rose products and started using them. Not only did my skin FINALLY start feeling normal and hydrated, but that pesky patch soon disappeared as well. In the year I’ve been using rose on my face, my skin has honestly never felt better. Look to the Rose Deep Hydrating Serum and the Rose Floral Toner.
Antioxidants
Science has proved rose is chock full of antioxidants as well as vitamins B, C, E and K; organic acids; anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal compounds. These all help fight against free radicals in the air that can lead to breakouts, and protect from harmful UV rays (though you should ALWAYS be wearing SPF30 at least), pollution and stress.
It can help with acne
This one surprised me, but it kind of makes sense considering rose is packed with antioxidants. Rose is also known to have antimicrobial properties which are elements that kill microorganisms and prevent their growth. Studies have shown that antibacterial activity in rose petals mean they can be used to “cure… opportunistic infection and skin infection.” I don’t suffer from acne, but like most girls, my skin is extremely prone to breakouts (thanks mother nature), so I’m always looking out for products that can help keep my spots at bay. I must admit that since using rose products, I haven’t noticed much difference in my spots, so I can’t say for sure that rose will cure your acne. That said, I can say that rose will soothe any irritation, which brings me on to the next key reason why rose should be in your skincare regimen.
Soothes & refreshes skin
Rose is hands down one of the most soothing and refreshing ingredients you could possibly put on your skin. I’ve found that rose cools hot and irritated skin, soothing and calming it. Last summer the Fresh Rose Face Mask was such a godsend. I used it pretty much every evening after a long hot day and work, and it instantly cooled my skin and totally relaxed it. Since last summer I’ve incorporated a serum and toner to my skincare regimen and these have given me such supple, smooth, calm skin, I don’t think I could ever use anything else. Oh and speaking of soothing, ladies, drinking rose tea is great for painful cramps. After an old manager of mine recommended drinking rose water a few years ago, I like to drink a cup of rose tea when I’m on my period and I’ve found that it really helps relieve some pain and discomfort.
Stress relief
Now, this last reason why rose should be in your skincare regimen isn’t exactly for skincare purposes but is still important nonetheless. I talked about how using rose on my face in the summer calmed my skin; well it also did something else too. Rose quite literally took the heat and stress of the workday from me. According to dermatologic surgeon, Dr. Tiffany Libby, inhaling rose water is known to “reduce stress and help promote a calmer and more relaxed state.” This is supported by research that shows how breathing in rose water reduces the level of cortisol in the body. What could really be better than skincare that not only makes you look good on the outside but makes you feel good on the inside too?
Like I mentioned earlier, I stand by Fresh’s Rose Collection. So if you’re looking for a great place to start, I honestly couldn’t recommend the rose products enough. These products are gentle and will change the way you deal with your skin forever.
