It’s that time of year again. Mornings are cold and frosty, thick
wool duffle coats are on and those trusty Uggs are out. Yep, winter is officially
back which can only mean one thing – it’s time to switch my hair regime to
accommodate the dryness, cold harsh winds and all the frizz. So on wash day two
weeks ago I decided to kick start the winter weather prep by doing my old school
routine (remember those days when I’d do an oil treatment first?) that included
jojoba oil, chamomile shampoo and a lovely cholesterol hair mask. Check it out
below.
JOJOBA OIL
Feeling how dry and frizzy my hair was thanks to a mixture
of the cold and indoor heating, I knew my hair was in need of an oil treatment
so I chose jojoba oil for its nourishing and conditioning qualities. I sectioned
my hair into four and then massaged the oil on my scalp and then from the root
to the tip of my hair.
CHAMOMILE & ALOE VERA SHAMPOO
I hadn’t shampooed my hair in the longest time, and my hair
was feeling kind of gross so a shampoo was definitely on the cards. Admittedly,
I probably went a little overboard on the shampoo, but after feeling all the congealed
product that had collected on my scalp, it felt great to have something get rid
of it completely. Chamomile and aloe vera are great because they’re calming
plants that soothe itchiness and dryness, while cleaning without irritating.
CHOLESTEROL CONDITIONING RINSE
And because no wash day is complete without some kind of
deep conditioner/hair mask, I picked this cholesterol rinse because I knew the
shampoo had stripped a lot of my oils, and I can remember how great this
particular rinse had been for my hair, especially when followed up by my other
Blue Magic leave-in products.
Following the wash, I left my hair to air dry, and while it
was still damp I applied some Blue Magic tea tree leave-in conditioner. While I
usually don’t like doing anything to my hair when it’s not completely dry, but I
figured it would be okay considering I had just put in the hair mask, and as I would
be slathering my monoi oil leave-in conditioner on as well. Once my hair was
completely dry I applied the monoi oil leave-in, Soft & Beautiful
Botanicals leave-in and my IC shea butter deep oil moisturiser. My hair felt especially
soft, nourished and ready for a week of brisk winds. Now that winter’s back, I’m
definitely going to be incorporating more oil treatments!
