It would seem that the nearer I get to my two year no
relaxer anniversary that I’ve been thinking more about my hair and my hair
journey, and how different it could have been. Like most girls I have an obsession
with wanting my hair to be as long as possible (which in part was why I kept my
hair relaxed for so many years), so when I realised I wanted to go natural, the
LAST thing I wanted to do was chop my hair off aka opt or the Big Chop and be
rendered bald for as long as it’d take my hair to grow; so instead I took the
long slow path aka I transitioned over the course of about eighteen month which
meant my hair just grew out. Now that I’m almost two years into my journey and
a little less obsessed with having such long hair (I keep my hair in two braids
98% of the time so I don’t monitor my growth often), I see that the Big Chop
may not have been the end of the world so long as I didn’t go full-on bald. Anyway
a few months ago I came across an article talking about the pros of Big
Chopping, and thought I’d share the one thing that really stood out to me.

I didn't Big Chop but I did trim some of my damaged ends |
HEALTHY HAIR
Once you cut off all the damaged ends, what are you left
with? Healthy hair that’s able to thrive given the right products and environments.
Cutting the unhealthy ends means your strands have less dead weight to carry,
allowing your hair to grow.
With my anniversary approaching I’m happy to have been able
to share my journey so far. Look out for my anniversary post coming next month.
